For example, if you were in a serious car accident and were technically alive but no brain function you would put in your advance directive that you do not want to be kept on life support or that you want to donate your organs in which case whatever you put in there would be honored by your family and doctors. DNRs are primarily for people or are older or have a serious illness. Advanced directives people usually get when they have decided for sure what they want to happen usually when you're about middle aged.
