How do you read a drum line cadence?

Next school year I will be a freshman in highschool and Ive been waiting for the chance to be in the drumline for as long as I can remember. I can play drums well as in a drum set and the snare parts to keep the beat during band rehersal. However I looked on my future highschools website and saw that I had no idea how to read the cadences that way I can prepare for tryouts. Can anyone help me out?
